Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

How the software works
AutoCAD has two main components: the AutoCAD database and AutoCAD design tools.
AutoCAD data base: The AutoCAD database holds all drawing files, which are organized into layers. AutoCAD has two types of layers: the default layer, which defines the plane of reference in the drawing, and named layers, which let you group related objects together.
AutoCAD tools: The AutoCAD design tools allow you to draw, edit, and modify the drawings stored in the AutoCAD database.
In the following sections, we will discuss AutoCAD features from a user’s perspective.
Starting up AutoCAD
At the beginning of AutoCAD use, you must enter the AutoCAD desktop. To start the program and begin drawing, choose Start from the AutoCAD menu or press the Windows button on the keyboard, and click the AutoCAD Start icon.
AutoCAD can open drawings from files that you have prepared. To open a drawing, choose Open from the File menu, and then choose Open from the Select File dialog box, or press the Ctrl+O keys on the keyboard. You can also drag a drawing from another drawing or location file to the AutoCAD desktop.
After you open a drawing, you can use a variety of methods to save or close it. To save a drawing, choose Save from the File menu or press Ctrl+S. To close a drawing, choose Save As from the File menu or press Ctrl+S. The Save As dialog box appears. At the top of the dialog box, you can choose the location where the file will be saved.
In the Save As dialog box, you can choose other names for the file, change the extension of the file, and choose to open the file in the current drawing or the last one you opened.
AutoCAD is designed to let you work quickly. At the same time, it is designed to accommodate technical text that may be needed to explain particular features of your drawings. You can insert graphics, tables, text frames, or annotations, such as dimension notes, comments, and AutoCAD warnings. Figure 2-1 shows an example of the typical amount of text that appears in AutoCAD.
You can create and edit text using the Standard toolbar, which appears when you select Text from the Text panel of the Home tab. Figure 2-

MONTREAL – It’s back-to-school time in Canada, and students are once again travelling on the red-eye to get their hands on a textbook.
But, what’s the big deal? Canada’s students already take on the red-eye flight to class across North America.

That’s right, since Canadian students first started attending American schools in the 1970s, it’s become the norm.

“When I first came to McGill in 1979, I knew of no other Canadian students in the U.S., so I was a bit surprised,” said former McGill grad student, Ronald Shearer.
“It seems that it’s not changed much, the schools in the U.S. are very much segregated,” said Shearer.
The trend is catching on in other parts of the world, with Australia the first country to adopt it.
Students in Australia currently attend school from either their home state or a place that offers the best education, and once they’ve been accepted to the school, they return home.
“The common destination is New South Wales, so they travel by train and rent a car or rent a bus and travel the rest of the distance,” said Richard Brinsmead, dean of education at the University of New South Wales.
For students like Brinsmead, it isn’t as simple as just changing schools.

That’s because some students don’t actually live in the state that they attend school in.
“I have students who I see in their last year of high school, they go home on the last day of the term and they’ve never left, they’ve never been outside of the state where they’ve lived, so I don’t know what that means for them,” said Brinsmead.
On the other hand, for students like Shearer, it’s an opportunity to study in a new area.

A brief summary of the major new features and functions that shipped with each release of AutoCAD are included in the release notes.
New and Noteworthy features and functions
AutoCAD 2023 includes a number of new and noteworthy features and enhancements. Some of these are the first implementations of technologies that are currently under development for future releases, and others are here for the first time in AutoCAD, with new functionality that is being introduced in other areas of AutoCAD.
How well do you know your drawings? Markup can help. In addition to drawing on paper and pasting in the Print Preview window, AutoCAD now lets you view and review CAD files in the DWG format using the new Augment Viewing feature.
To start viewing, select View ➤ Augment Viewing. This command opens a new workspace, displaying the selected drawing in addition to the drawing on the active printer page. You can switch back and forth between the drawing and the page, review the drawing by performing various actions, and save the changes to the drawing.
You can also adjust the drawing size, zoom in and out, see page layouts, and view paper sizes, page margins, and bleed lines, and you can control the visibility of various display items, such as the information bar, line scale, text, and backgrounds. (Note: You may need to configure the settings of your printer for the width of the paper that you are using. Check your printer documentation or contact your vendor for assistance.)
Why Augment Viewing?
The Augment Viewing feature lets you view your design documents in addition to the drawings on your page. It is helpful if you want to review your drawings in a different format, such as for annotation or to compare design alternatives.
AutoCAD is already the de facto industry standard for the creation of complex computer-aided design (CAD) files. With the increased usage of Paper and PDF CAD formats in the industry, you can now view paper documents in the same workspace where you create them.
